Length Converter — km, Meter, Feet, Inches, Miles
The length converter is the most used converter worldwide. People need to convert between metric (kilometers, meters, centimeters) and imperial (miles, feet, inches, yards) systems every day — for travel, construction, fitness tracking, and more.
Metric vs Imperial Length Units
The metric system is used by most of the world including India, Europe, and Asia. It is based on meters with prefixes like kilo- (1000×) and centi- (1/100). The imperial system is primarily used in the United States and partially in the UK, using feet, inches, yards, and miles.
India officially uses the metric system, so most everyday measurements are in kilometers, meters, and centimeters. However, many Indians also encounter feet and inches regularly — for height measurements, real estate (property sizes in square feet), and imported goods with imperial measurements on packaging.
Most Common Length Conversions
- Kilometers to Miles (km to miles): Multiply kilometers by 0.621371. For example, 10 km = 6.21 miles. This is useful for converting road distances shown on foreign maps or GPS apps.
- Meters to Feet (m to ft): Multiply meters by 3.28084. For example, a 6-foot person is approximately 1.83 meters tall.
- Centimeters to Inches (cm to inches): Divide centimeters by 2.54. For example, a 30cm ruler is approximately 11.81 inches.
- Miles to Kilometers (miles to km): Multiply miles by 1.60934. For example, a 5-mile run is approximately 8.05 km.
- Feet to Meters (ft to m): Multiply feet by 0.3048. For example, a 10-foot ceiling is approximately 3.05 meters high.

Weight Converter — kg, Pounds, Grams, Ounces
The weight converter is essential for cooking, fitness, shipping, and international trade. India uses kilograms and grams as standard weight units, while the US uses pounds and ounces. The UK uses a mix of both systems, also using stones for body weight.
Kilograms to Pounds (kg to lbs)
1 kilogram = 2.20462 pounds. To convert kg to pounds, multiply the kilogram value by 2.20462. To convert pounds to kg, divide by 2.20462 (or multiply by 0.453592). This conversion is very commonly needed for body weight — if you see a weight given in pounds but you understand kilograms, divide by 2.2 for a quick estimate.
Weight Conversion Quick Reference
| Kilograms (kg) | Pounds (lb) | Grams (g) | Ounces (oz) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 kg | 2.205 lb | 1000 g | 35.274 oz |

Cooking Weight Conversions
Recipes from the US and UK often use ounces and cups while Indian recipes use grams. Understanding weight conversions is essential for following international recipes accurately. Key cooking conversions: 1 cup of flour ≈ 125 grams, 1 cup of sugar ≈ 200 grams, 1 tablespoon of butter ≈ 14 grams, 1 ounce ≈ 28.35 grams.
Temperature Converter — Celsius, Fahrenheit, Kelvin
The temperature converter handles the three major temperature scales used around the world. Celsius (°C) is used in India and most countries globally for everyday temperatures. Fahrenheit (°F) is primarily used in the United States. Kelvin (K) is used in science and physics.
Temperature Conversion Formulas
- Celsius to Fahrenheit: °F = (°C × 9/5) + 32
- Fahrenheit to Celsius: °C = (°F − 32) × 5/9
- Celsius to Kelvin: K = °C + 273.15
- Kelvin to Celsius: °C = K − 273.15
- Fahrenheit to Kelvin: K = (°F − 32) × 5/9 + 273.15

Quick Celsius to Fahrenheit Trick
For a quick mental estimate when converting Celsius to Fahrenheit, double the Celsius value and add 30. For example, 20°C × 2 = 40 + 30 = 70°F (actual value is 68°F — close enough for everyday use). This quick trick is very useful when travelling to countries that use Fahrenheit.
Area Converter — sq ft, sq meter, Acre, Bigha, Hectare
The area converter is especially important in India for real estate transactions. Property sizes are often listed in square feet for residential apartments but in Bigha, Katha, or acres for agricultural and rural land. Converting between these units is essential for understanding land values and areas.
Indian Land Measurement Units
India has several traditional land measurement units that vary by state. The Bigha is commonly used in North India (UP, Bihar, MP, Rajasthan, West Bengal) but its exact size varies — approximately 2508 square meters in UP and Bihar. The Guntha, Cent, and Ground are used in South India. Our converter includes the most common Indian unit, Bigha, for quick reference.

Data Storage Converter — MB, GB, TB, KB, Bytes
The data storage converter helps you understand file sizes, storage capacities, internet data plan limits, and RAM/SSD specifications. In computing, data storage uses a binary system based on powers of 2, so 1 KB = 1024 bytes (not 1000), 1 MB = 1024 KB, and so on.
Data Storage Units Explained
- Bit (b): The smallest unit of data — either 0 or 1.
- Byte (B): 8 bits. Stores one character of text (one letter, number, or symbol).
- Kilobyte (KB): 1024 bytes. A short text email is about 5–10 KB.
- Megabyte (MB): 1024 KB = 1,048,576 bytes. A high-quality photo is about 3–8 MB. One minute of MP3 music is about 1 MB.
- Gigabyte (GB): 1024 MB. A typical movie (HD) is about 1–4 GB. A mobile data plan is measured in GB.
- Terabyte (TB): 1024 GB. A 1TB hard drive stores approximately 250,000 photos or 500 HD movies.
- Petabyte (PB): 1024 TB. Used for enterprise cloud storage and data centers.
Data Conversion Quick Reference
| Unit | = Bytes | = KB | = MB |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 KB | 1,024 B | 1 KB | 0.000976 MB |
| 1 MB | 1,048,576 B | 1,024 KB | 1 MB |
| 1 GB | 1,073,741,824 B | 1,048,576 KB | 1,024 MB |
| 1 TB | ~1.099 trillion B | ~1.074 billion KB | 1,048,576 MB |
Why 1 GB = 1024 MB and Not 1000?
Computers work in binary (base 2), so storage units are powers of 2. 2¹⁰ = 1024, which is close to 1000, so the prefix “kilo” was used even though it technically means 1000 in the metric system. This is why hard drive manufacturers (who use 1000-based definitions) advertise a “1 TB” drive that Windows shows as only about 931 GB — both are technically correct but use different definitions. The IEC standard introduced terms like Kibibyte (KiB), Mebibyte (MiB), and Gibibyte (GiB) to distinguish the binary (1024-based) versions, and our tool supports these as well.

Mass is the amount of matter in an object (measured in kilograms or grams) and does not change regardless of location. Weight is the gravitational force acting on that mass and varies depending on gravity. On the Moon, you would weigh about 1/6th of your Earth weight, but your mass remains the same. In everyday use, the terms are used interchangeably, and our weight converter handles standard mass units.
